Arc Flash calculations are required by OSHA when electricians have to work on live equipment. This happens mostly on industrial and sometimes medical facilities, or commercial facilities that want to avoid outages. Burns, lung and ear drum damage can occur durn arc faults, so the consequences are severe of getting these calculations wrong.
